Description

Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) — IHS Federal Facility | Southwest United States

About the Facility: A federal Indian Health Service hospital serving a Native American tribal community in the Southwest. Full service medical center with comprehensive women's health, labor and delivery, obstetrics, and outpatient services on site. Mission driven environment serving one of the most historically significant tribal communities in the country. 24 hour facility with a dedicated and collaborative clinical team.

Position Overview: We are seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to provide full scope midwifery and women's health services within a federal IHS facility. This is a high autonomy role where you will work closely with physicians and a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care to a tribal patient population. Meaningful work in a culturally rich environment with a community that genuinely depends on quality healthcare providers showing up for them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full scope midwifery care including prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum management
  • Manage normal and low risk labor and delivery independently
  • Perform newborn assessments and immediate postpartum newborn care
  • Provide gynecological and women's health services including annual exams, contraception management, and STI screening and treatment
  • Educate patients and families on prenatal health, labor preparation, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery
  • Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians on high risk cases and escalating presentations
  • Document accurately in the electronic health record system
  • Deliver culturally sensitive care to a Native American patient population

Required Qualifications:

  • Active CNM certification through AMCB
  • Active NP or midwifery license — any U.S. state accepted for IHS federal facilities
  • BLS certification current
  • Ability to work independently in a rural federal healthcare setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior IHS or tribal facility experience
  • Experience serving rural or underserved patient populations
  • Cultural competency with Native American communities
  • Familiarity with IHS RPMS or similar electronic health record systems

Contract Details:

  • Location: Southwest United States — IHS Federal Facility
  • Setting: Labor and Delivery and Women's Health Outpatient
  • Compensation: Competitive — contact for full package details
  • Schedule: Contact for details
  • Contract Length: Contact for details

Why This Role: This is not a corporate hospital position. You will be providing care to a community with limited healthcare access where your presence as a skilled midwife directly impacts maternal and infant outcomes. If you are a CNM looking for purposeful work in a federal setting with a strong clinical support team this is that opportunity.
