Job Overview:

We are seeking skilled and dependable Medical-Surgical Registered Nurses (MS RNs) to provide high-quality patient care within the VA Medical Center in San Diego. This role involves caring for adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions, ensuring safe, effective treatment and recovery. The MS RN will collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver patient-centered care to the veteran population.


Key Responsibilities:

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in a medical-surgical setting

Monitor patient condition, including vital signs, symptoms, and response to treatment

Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols

Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning

Collaborate with physicians, LVNs, CNAs, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care

Respond to changes in patient condition and escalate care as needed

Maintain infection control standards and ensure a safe patient environment

Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers

Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and VA regulations


Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN)

Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license

Current BLS certification (American Heart Association preferred)

At least 2-3 years of experience in a medical-surgical or acute care setting


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience in a hospital-based medical-surgical unit

ACLS certification

Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems

Experience working with diverse or veteran patient populations
