Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) — IHS Facility

Position Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technician performs essential diagnostic laboratory testing at an Indian Health Service facility in North Dakota serving a tribal community. This role requires a self-sufficient, detail oriented lab professional capable of operating independently in a community focused federal healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, and coagulation studies
  • Collect and process patient specimens with accuracy and proper chain of custody
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment
  • Ensure quality control procedures are followed and documented in compliance with CLIA standards
  • Review and report laboratory results to providers in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate electronic records and laboratory documentation
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and regulatory compliance standards
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and providers to support patient care decisions

Qualifications:

  • ASCP or AMT certification required
  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a rural federal healthcare setting

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior IHS or tribal facility experience
  • Generalist background across multiple laboratory disciplines
  • Familiarity with federal laboratory compliance standards

Contract Details:

  • Location: North Dakota — IHS Tribal Facility
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM with 1 hour lunch
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Contract Length: 12 weeks
